Stenton Garden

Coaching and Development

Stenton was a garden with "good bones". There were many well-planted areas and the layout of the garden was uniquely terraced with different areas creating "rooms". The garden had been neglected for a few years and the herbaceous borders were 80% weeds. The new homeowner was keen to learn to garden and contacted me about coaching sessions combined with extra maintenance and development. The garden has gone from strength to strength with new areas, including a wildlife pond and a vegetable garden making the homeowner feels like it's her own garden instead of one she moved into. It wasn't just the garden that grew! The client became a gardener, through and through.

When we bought our house we had a beautiful garden but it had become chocked and somewhat overgrown. I knew nothing and had no idea where to start. Sarah has been a wonderfully patient teacher and with her help we have managed to bring our garden back to its former glory. Through the winter we have built a pond which is already teeming with wildlife. During the time Sarah was with me, my son was extremely unwell and I am sure that without my garden and Sarah's help I would have found the whole experience so much harder. Gardening as therapy I can heartily recommend! Thank you Sarah, I am no longer afraid of my garden and, by the by, my son is very much better!

A garden should be an outdoor room of your home, even in Scotland! It should be a space you feel comfortable, relaxed and happy in. Somewhere you can watch the wildlife, work, entertain or simply enjoy from your window.
